The surroundings are picturesque, the bushland is peaceful and it’s a great spot for a dip – it’s the perfect place for a stroll, bike ride, and a picnic.

The remarkable Manly War Memorial State Park (Manly Dam) is one of our prized recreational areas and it’s set to be even better with a proposed new boardwalk.

The boardwalk will start where the current accessible concrete path ends just before Picnic Area 2 and follow the waterline around past this picnic area, through the bushland and on to Picnic Area 3.

Designs for the 1.8-metre wide and 390-metre-long raised boardwalk have been released for community feedback.

Made from fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP), the boardwalk will take pedestrians off the busy and narrow road through bushland providing a safe and scenic walking track.

The path will allow wheelchairs, prams, and people of varied abilities to enjoy this beautiful walk.

With the park’s popularity growing every year, the use of raised boardwalks means the low-lying vegetation near the path is protected from trampling, especially in wet weather when walkers are trying to avoid muddy puddles.

Boardwalks also allow the passage of flora and fauna underneath, do not contribute to the erosion of bushland, and minimise the construction footprint.

The gradient of the boardwalk has also been designed to achieve the gentlest slope possible.

In addition, the build will include viewing platforms across the water as well as seated rest areas that will give places for quiet contemplation.

As part of this project Council will be developing new wayfinding signage for the entire park to help visitors navigate the trails.
