The Shire is calling for community members to share their views on a makeover for the popular Riflebutts playspace.

The play equipment is earmarked for replacement, but as visitors tend to spend a while at the park using all the facilities, the Shire is keen to create a bespoke, inclusive playspace that’s fun for all ages and abilities, plus additional shade structures, seating and pathway upgrades.

Before progressing with the project, the Shire is keen to gain an understanding of how the community currently uses Riflebutts, and if the proposed upgrade will enhance their use of the area.

Susan Elton, Project Planning Officer for the Shire of Augusta Margaret River explains why the Shire is seeking the community’s views.

“We have a draft design, but we’re keen to make sure we’re on the right track. Riflebutts is a well-used and well-loved park and the best way to ensure it stays that way is to create a space that works for everyone who wants to use it,” she says.

Community members are encouraged to go to the Shire’s Yoursay page to give feedback about whether the proposed design enhances (or detracts from) their enjoyment and use of the park.

The redevelopment of the Riflebutts park and play area reflects the Shire’s commitment to the responsible development of vibrant, sustainable places for the community to enjoy.

Nick Logan, the Shire’s Director of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure is keen to hear from the community.

“Our role is to provide facilities that the community really want,” he explains. “The more people share their views with us, the easier it is for us to ensure we create the best spaces for everyone to enjoy.”
