UTAS Cradle Coast Campus OPEN

Published on 10 September 2021

The University of Tasmania’s redeveloped Cradle Coast Campus opened today at Burnie’s West Park, creating new opportunities for students who live in Burnie and across the coast to gain a tertiary education.

From 2021 and 2022, new courses to be offered at the Cradle Coast campus include:

Bachelor of Nursing Bachelor of Psychological Science Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Engineering Technology Accelerated Bachelor of Business Graduate Certificate in Business Studies Master of Business Administration Bachelor of Laws

Our Mayor Steve Kons had a few words to say at today’s official opening.

“This project is almost 10 years in the making and began with a meeting held with colleagues to discuss where the University would relocate. There was a choice of the former APPM site or the waterfront where we stand today. The waterfront was chosen.

This is about the Future. Young people can now choose to stay on the coast, and as courses expand, the support for this location will grow.

Education is a fundamental human right and should be accessible and affordable to all. We have the lowest educational uptake post high school in the country. This is an opportunity to change that, and it will.

I, on behalf of the community, am proud to have fought, and in partnership with the University, we have achieved this outcome. In 20 to 50 years’ time, I will look to this campus and have a sense of pride that I live in a community that values education and made great change happen. The seeds of the efforts made by others in the 1990’s to establish a campus in Burnie have brought us here today and will move us forward.

And as the motto of Burnie Council states – Non Nobis Solum.

Which translates to ‘Not for ourselves alone’

Congratulations to all that make this campus a reality.”
