Wyndham City has welcomed the State Government’s announcement to provide a pipeline of funding for new kindergartens.

The State Government has announced the first Building Blocks Partnership in the state which will support delivery of the State Government’s three-year-old kindergarten reform.

The State Government will partner with Wyndham City and co-contribute more than $47 million towards 17 planned new and expanded kindergartens across the next decade which will provide access to both three and four year old kindergarten programs for families in Wyndham.

This first stage includes delivery of a two-room modular kindergarten in Point Cook for 2022, and three-room kindergartens in Manor Lakes, Truganina and Werribee West for delivery in 2023 and 2024.

Wyndham Mayor Cr Adele Hegedich said: “Wyndham City welcomes the Building Blocks Partnership and this major pipeline of investment in Wyndham.”

“Not only is Wyndham City one of the largest local government areas by population, but we are also one of Australia’s fastest growing municipalities.”

“More than 100 babies are born each week in Wyndham, which means we need long term planning and funding for kindergartens just to keep pace with this ongoing boom.”

Wyndham City’s Learning City portfolio holder Cr Jasmine Hill said: “Research shows that children who experience a quality early childhood education enjoy sustained benefits that continue throughout school and beyond.”

There is also in-principle support for the State Government to contribute a further $24 million to deliver an additional eight early childhood infrastructure projects in Wyndham between 2025-2029. In total, this will see more than 3,600 kindergarten places created across Wyndham communities by 2029.

“Long term funding is essential to help bring certainty to our growing number of families in Wyndham,” Cr Hegedich said.

“This new partnership will also provide much-needed jobs during the construction phase of the kindergartens.”
