After the great news announced by the Chief Minister (CM) today, City of Darwin can confirm that we will start reopening services from 8am tomorrow.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said it was fantastic to hear that the lockdown ended today and that we can get back to COVID normal following the restrictions that were announced.

“City of Darwin libraries, pools and community facilities will return to normal operations from Saturday, 3 July and will be subject to the restrictions of wearing masks, checking in with the Territory check-in app and physical distancing. The Shoal Bay Waste Management Facility is also now open to the public and the HPA recycling shop will reopen at 8am tomorrow.

“Where Council has responsibility for markets, gyms and contact sports, we will work with these clubs and entities to ensure Chief Health Officer (CHO) directions are upheld over the next seven days.

“We are assessing the situation for our scheduled events and activities, such as the libraries and Fun Bus school holiday program, and will advise when these will recommence.

“Council officers are also currently updating our Safety Work Method Statements (SWMS) and COVID-19 Safety Plans to communicate these changes to staff returning to the workplace.

“Over the weekend our facilities and places of work will have additional cleaning measures for everyone’s peace of mind returning to the office and PPE will be made available.

“Again, I would like to thank all staff and our contractors for keeping Council activities going during this lockdown period and for the doing the right thing and following the advice from the CM and CHO,” said the Lord Mayor.
