The temporary closure of Nuttall Place was approved by City of Darwin at the Council Meeting on Tuesday, 25 May 2021.

Monsoons Nightclub and Party Bar made the request for the closure due to safety concerns with patrons spilling from the footpath, between parked cars and into Nuttall place, while queuing and experiencing longer wait times to gain entry to the venue as a result of COVID-19 restrictions.

The temporary closure will take place between 8pm and 4am Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights on Nuttall Place between Mitchell Street and Shadforth Lane.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said that Council had undertaken a thorough consultation process with the business community and landowners regarding the request.

“The feedback received was mixed with some supporting the request and others expressing concern about the proposed closure. However, Council made the decision to approve the request based on the safety concerns. The lane is used by motorists and the safety of pedestrians is of paramount importance.”

Bollards will be placed at the intersection of Mitchell Street and Nuttall Place, and Shadforth Lane and Nuttall Place.

The temporary closure will be in reviewed at the end of September 2021.
