Ararat Rural City residents will be able to enjoy a night out this month, as one of Melbourne’s finest character comedians Damian Callanan, will perform at the Ararat Town Hall on 22 May.

Star of acclaimed multi-winning comedy The Merger, Callinan returns to the stage with a one-man tour de force that is set to elicit tears of grief and laughter.

Think of a struggling, regional footy team and a diverse community of characters where the audience can find familiarity, warmth, and humour all in one play. The show tells the tale of Troy Carrington who is trying to save the failing Bodgy Creek Roosters by recruiting refuges to play on the team.

Ararat Rural City Council Dr Tim Harrison is proud to bring this hit performance to Ararat Rural City.

“Many people would have seen the acclaimed film The Merger and it is now returning to the stage as part of a regional tour,” Dr Harrison said.

“Comedy comes in all forms – it’s a great opportunity to experience an act of Damian’s calibre as he shines a light on racism with his unique take on stand-up.

“The performance will be an opportunity for the community to get together in our local hall to enjoy some top-class entertainment.”

The Merger has been included on the 2021 Victorian VCE Playlist, offering school groups a chance to discuss complex themes of social justice, empathy, and immigration.

“This is a great chance for secondary students to see an award-winning show that tackles hard-hitting themes from racism through to community and sport often found in regional communities.

Damian will offer a post-show Q&A where the audience will get a chance to ask questions.

The ‘must-see’ show kicks off at 7.30pm on Saturday 22 May 2021 at Ararat Town Hall. Doors will open at 7pm, please arrive slightly earlier than usual so we can get you checked-in and seated safely prior to the performance.

Special pricing is available for student, sporting and community  group bookings, with tickets priced at $12 per student.
