Community groups can book midweek, after-hours functions at the Toowoomba City Library Community Meeting Rooms, in addition to existing operating hours, until September 30 this year.

Toowoomba Regional Council Library and Cultural Services portfolio leader Cr Tim McMahon said a preliminary review of feedback, that was submitted on the use of the Community Meeting Rooms, indicated strong support for after-hours use, particularly from Tuesday to Thursday night.

Cr McMahon said Council received more than 140 responses to the recent survey around the demand for the use of the Community Meeting Rooms.

“Council acknowledges the uncertainty that existed for user groups that wished to make after-hours bookings from July this year and will consider a full report on the survey findings before June 30,” Cr McMahon said.

“It’s apparent from the results that community groups are keen to book the rooms for after- hours functions, particularly on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening, mostly in line with pre-covid meeting schedules.

“All current after-hours bookings are being honoured and, following consideration of the survey feedback, Council will temporarily extend the revised evening hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday until September 30 to help groups plan their schedules past the former June 30 trial date.

“The Community Meeting Rooms also are available for hire by community groups between 9am and 5pm from Monday to Friday, and 9am to 3pm on Sundays. (The rooms are not open on Saturday)

“Council will consider booking requests where the enquiry aligns with existing bookings outside of these hours.

“A decision about the future operating hours of the venue will be made after full consideration of the report to Council.

“Council acknowledges the groups that completed the survey and thanks all user groups for contributing their feedback.

“Council will contact all affected community groups about the latest changes.”

Booking enquiries can be emailed to [email protected] , visiting www.tr.qld.gov.au/communityvenues or by calling 131 872.

There is no change to the availability of other community spaces which can be hired, including the Dr Price Room, the Highfields Cultural Centre, Oakey Cultural Centre and the Railway Goods Shed.
