Community to be consulted on trail name MEDIA RELEASE

Published: 14 April 2021. (Note: information was correct at date of publication but may have since been changed or superseded.)

Council will undertake community consultation over the proposal to name a trail from Norman Park to Greenpatch in Gordonvale to the Bungara Heritage Trail.

Traditional Owners (Dulabed Malanbarra Yidinji) have made a request to name the pathway in honour of Darby Bungara, who lived in Gordonvale during the late 1890s and 1900s as the area was settled and developed by Europeans.

A request has also been made to acknowledge families affected by cancer as this was the inspiration for the trail.

The project, which includes car parking, seating, landscaping and interpretive signage, is expected to be completed by 30 June 2021.

The above resolution needs to be ratified at the next Ordinary Meeting of Council, to be held on 28 April 2021.
