Get ready to battle
City of Wodonga 14 Apr 2021

The Albury-Wodonga Esports League will be on the lookout for talented gamers on Saturday when Baranduda Community Centre hosts the Tekken Open.

The electronic games tournament is open to all ages with participants playing Tekken 7, a Japanese fighting game.

Players will battle it out in a single-elimination style tournament with the best of three rounds.

Albury Esports owner James Casizzi said the aim of hosting the challenge at the community centre was to bring gamers together.

“If your kids are at home playing by themselves, we can bring the same games into a competitive and social environment,” he said.

“It’s about forming connections with others who play online so they can put a face to those they play against.”

With the rise of talented gamers making a career from playing professionally, Esports will be on the lookout for local talent on the day.

“If we found someone who we thought had talent, we would pay for them to go to a tournament,” he said.

Saturday's tournament kicks off at 11.30am.

All equipment will be provided, however, gamers can bring along their own Xbox or Playstation control.

There will be cash prizes for first, second and third, as well as giveaways throughout the session.

All ages welcome.

Cost is $10 per person.
