Council looking for feedback on Emergency Dashboard

Published on 12 April 2021

Byron Shire Council launched the Byron Emergency Dashboard in December 2020, just days before the heavens opened on the region.

Four months later and after a lot of rain, Council is looking for feedback from people who have used the dashboard.

The emergency dashboard is a website where people get quick access to important information including the SES, Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), RFS, road closures and power interruptions.

For people who live in flood-prone areas they can check the BOM data on river heights as well as access the social media feeds for the SES, Police, Council etc.

“Some of our neighbouring councils also have emergency dashboards and the aim of these websites is that when something like a severe weather event or bushfire affects our shire, rather than try to seek information from a range of different websites and information sources, people can go to one central location,” Phil Holloway, Director Infrastructure Services said.

The dashboard also links to a wide range of other information that is useful before and after an emergency such as preparing for an emergency and information from the Red Cross.

“With a few weather events now under our belt we would really like to know what people thought was useful and what other features they might like to see on the Byron Shire Emergency Dashboard,” Mr Holloway said.

People can provide feedback on the Byron Shire Emergency Dashboard at Your Say Byron Shire.

The closing date for submissions is 7 May 2021.
