Mt Noorat Committee seeks new member

Published on 09 April 2021

If you love Mount Noorat, here is your chance to get involved and help shape its future.

The Mount Noorat Community Asset Committee has a casual vacancy until July 2022.

Committee Chair Bernard Conheady said the group’s main job was to carry out actions in the Mount Noorat Management Plan.

“The committee meets monthly to plan maintenance and development of the reserve, as well as fundraising and events,” Mr Conheady said.

“We plan everything from weed control, tree planting and construction works to community workshops and working bees.”

Mr Conheady said anybody from the community with an interest in Mount Noorat was invited to nominate.

“We want to know how you can contribute and what skills and experience you can bring.”

Mount Noorat’s 30 year vision states “Mount Noorat is a destination known for its geological and natural values and experiences; a place where culture past and present is understood and respected and where access is provided for all to enjoy.’

The Committee has 10 elected community members, a Council Officer and standing members Eve and Gina Black, representing the family of Niel Black who bequeathed the mount to the community.

Central Ward Councillor and Noorat resident Geraldine Conheady encouraged community members to get involved.

“Mount Noorat means many things to different people. It is a significant geological site, home to our treasured eagles, a great place to walk and enjoy the views, serenity and the beautiful natural environment.”

Nominees can access a position description, view the Mount Noorat Management Plan and apply online at www.corangamite.vic.gov.au/MtNoorat or call Council on 5593 7100 to arrange hard copy forms.

Nominations close 5 pm, Friday 30 April.
