Quick turnaround funding for businesses to break down social isolation

Published on 01 April 2021

Local businesses considering programs or activities that would bring people together and break down social isolation can now apply for up to $10,000 through a new quick turnaround Mildura Rural City Council funding program.

The Community Activation Funding – For Business program is aimed at supporting free or low-cost sport, recreation or arts activities or programs which encourage residents to come together, participate and reconnect in the wake of the social isolation caused by COVID-19.

Applications open Monday 29 March and will be taken until Friday 16 April.

Councillor for Community Health and Wellbeing Cyndi Power encouraged local businesses to consider applying for funding.

“This funding program is a great opportunity for both local businesses and the broader community,” Cr Power said.

“For our innovative, hard-working local business sector, it’s a chance to secure up to $10,000 to make their next program or initiative a reality if it meets eligibility requirements.

“For our community, the activities made possible by this funding will help break down the barriers of social isolation we’re still seeing in parts of our region as a result of previous COVID-19 restrictions.”

Examples of the types of activities or programs that could be eligible for funding include dance groups in our region’s public spaces, yoga classes, children’s music classes, boot camps or art classes, all of which could be conducted in any town across our municipality.

Once these programs and activities are confirmed, the community will be invited to participate to encourage people to connect with each other and their community again.
