Wembley Golf Course General Manager Wins National Award.

Published on 25 March 2021

The Wembley Golf Course is recognised as a benchmark golfing facility within Western Australia.

However, complementing its ambitious tagline as, ‘Australia’s Best Public Golf Experience’ its reputation has helped to recruit and build an outstanding team to continue working toward that goal. General Manager, Josh Madden, was awarded the West Australian PGA’s Management Professional of the Year Award in 2019.

That honour then saw him judged against the winners from each state in that category at the virtual 2020 Greg Norman Medal Ceremony, the Premier Awards of the Professional Golfers Association of Australia.

Due to the COVID-19 disruptions in 2020, the awards ceremony was postponed until 24 March 2021.

The combined package of the 2020 performance results at the Wembley facility, the solid management practises, leadership and initiative, has resulted in Josh Madden being named the PGA’s 2020 National Management Professional of the Year.

Town of Cambridge Mayor, Keri Shannon said while being very pleased with the award for Josh, and the venue, she was not at all surprised.

“The Wembley Golf Course is the jewel in the crown of Cambridge so, it makes sense that the best in the industry would want to be a part of this venue and team,” she said.

“In addition to our award winning General Manager, in 2020 we recruited Jason Roach from the Cairns Golf Club who was the 2019 Australian Club Professional of the Year.

Mayor Shannon also said that the success of the venue is the fact that it is so much more than just a golf course.

“The facilities have sweeping views of the City skyline and the surrounding bushland and it is also an entertainment and hospitality venue of note,” she said.

“It is certainly one place you choose to take out of town visitors to if you want to show off the Town of Cambridge.

” During the worst of the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in 2020, the Wembley Golf Course venue played a vital role in people’s well-being as golf and tennis were the first sports to allow people to gather at venues to recreate.

“During July last year 111,000 balls were hit on the driving range in a single day when the average pre-covid tally was usually around 50,000 just to show how popular the venue was and continues to be,” Mayor Shannon said.

In accepting the award, General Manager Josh Madden said that the recognition is testament to the hard work from the entire team at the Wembley Golf Course.

“The results were recognised last year, but the foundations for our success have been an ongoing work in progress.” he said.

Wembley Golf Course is a purpose-built public golf facility that leads the nation in design and functionality to attract more than just golfers. The entire complex includes 36 holes of golf, a 'State of the Art' 80 bay automated driving range, 300 Acres Restaurant and Bar, Perth's best mini golf experience, one of Australia’s biggest pro shops and WA’s only PGA Learning and Performance Centre.
