New scheme for accessibility parking permits

If you have a disability parking permit, your next renewal will be under the new Accessible Parking Permit (APP) Scheme.

Corangamite Shire Mayor Ruth Gstrein said the statewide APP Scheme started on Monday 22 March.

“If you already have a disability permit, it will remain valid until its expiry date,” Cr Gstrein said.

“Permit holders are not required to do anything until it’s time to renew. At that time, they will need to have a medical assessment to renew into the APP Scheme.

“The new APP Scheme aims to make the process consistent across Victoria. It’s an online application process which is then available to your GP once you receive your application number.”

Applicants will require internet access and a mobile phone number to complete the application process prior to going to their medical practitioner.

To assist the community with the change to online applications, Council has established a self-help counter for those who may not have access to the internet at home.

“General practitioners and occupational therapists will be responsible for assessing applicants,” Cr Gstrein said.

“Permit holders assessed as having a condition or disability that permanently affects their mobility will no longer have to visit a medical practitioner to renew their permit.”
