Residents can now have their say on the draft camp management plans for grey-headed flying fox colonies at Campbelltown and Macquarie Fields.

Grey-headed flying foxes are an important native species within the Australian ecosystem as they disperse seeds and pollinate flowers across a large geographic range while foraging for their food.

The plans have been developed in consultation with residents living near the colonies and flying fox experts to understand the complexities of managing a threatened native species living in close proximity to residential properties.

“Flying foxes are a protected species who are vital to the natural ecosystem so it’s important that we take measures to protect them,” Mayor George Brticevic said.

“We understand that living near a flying fox colony can bring with it many challenges and these plans outline actions for Council to explore to reduce the impact of flying foxes on nearby residents,” Cr Brticevic said.
