Romance and passion in the modern world can at times appear a little detached – it seems to be all about swiping right, picking a flattering profile photo and learning a whole new language with terms like ghosting and breadcrumbing.

On the eve of “the month of romance”, turn the page on contemporary hook-ups and “Make a date with Cairns Libraries this February”.

Cairns Libraries will be celebrating Library Lovers’ Day (14 February) with a month-long program that includes an online author talk, musical performances, a film screening and lots of activities for children.

Cairns Mayor Bob Manning encouraged residents of all ages to take advantage of an extensive and engaging program.

“Libraries are an important part of the community; they provide information and resources, are a place where people can connect with each other, and importantly encourage children to read,” Cr Manning said.

“Library Lovers’ Day and the month-long program at Cairns Libraries provides an opportunity for us to celebrate the valuable role that libraries play in our lives.

“For some people, this program will be a chance to reinforce their love of libraries, for others it might be a chance to rekindle their fondness for libraries and rediscover their passion for reading.”

Library Lovers’ activities planned at Cairns Libraries include:
