Isaac Regional Council Commemorates Moranbah Community Member, Julie Smith

Moranbah has lost an icon with the passing this week of Julie Smith.

Moranbah has lost an icon with the passing this week of Julie Smith.

Julie lived in Moranbah for more than four decades and was known and loved throughout the community.

Julie worked for Council for 33 years. She first joined local government in the parks and gardens department, worked her way up from an assistant sewerage treatment plant operator to the senior water and wastewater operator, and won an award for Queensland’s best water plant operator.

Julie was regarded as one of Council’s most admired staff members and was a trailblazer for other women at Council.

I know Julie inspired all her colleagues at Council – first with her devotion, enthusiasm and commitment in her work and later with her indomitable fighting spirit when diagnosed with breast cancer.

Julie was also very active in the community outside work hours. For example, she was a life-long member of the Moranbah Squash Club, and was a mentor and coach for other club members.

On behalf of the Isaac Regional Council, I wish to convey deepest condolences to Julie’s family and many friends.

Floral tributes are being placed at the fence of the water treatment plant at 129 Goonyella Road.

As a community, let’s all remember Julie and be inspired by her in everything we do, both in our work and personal lives. And let’s remember Julie’s smile. It could light up a room. And, even now, it warms my heart.
