Thanking our community this Australia Day

The seven Blue Mountains Rotary Clubs, supported by Blue Mountains City Council, are providing free sausage sizzles across the Blue Mountains this Australia Day. 

Rotary secured a grant through the Australia Day Council to provide the sausage sizzles on 26 January 2021.

They will be available at Blue Mountains Leisure Centres between 10am and 2pm on the day and will strictly follow COVID safe procedures, as outlined by NSW Health.

These events provide an opportunity for Blue Mountains residents to reflect on the challenges of the past year, respect the sacrifices and contributions of those who responded in a time of need and celebrate being together.

Rotary is proud to be able to show support to the Blue Mountains community and to Reflect, Respect and Celebrate on Australia Day and in the 100th year of Rotary in Australia. 

Council is also providing free entry to the Leisure Centres on the public holiday, to support our community following the challenges of 2020.  Opening times are: •    Springwood Aquatic & Fitness Centre – 8am to 6pm •    Katoomba Sports & Aquatic Centre – 8am to 6pm •    Lawson Swim Centre – 8am to 6pm •    Glenbrook – 8am to 7pm •    Blackheath Pool – 9.30am to 6.30pm

The sausage sizzles will be provided outdoors for lunch on the day. The Leisure Centres are operating in line with the NSW Government COVID-safe requirements and patrons will need to register their visit on arrival (QR code or membership card). Please stay at home if you are unwell or displaying any COVID-19 symptoms.

Council will also host its Local Citizen of the Year Awards and Citizenship Ceremony at the Blue Mountains Theatre and Hub on 26 January, to recognise the contributions that many individuals make to their local community each year.

“Each year in January our community celebrates the achievement and contribution of notable local residents by profiling leading citizens who are role models for us all. They inspire us through their achievements and challenge us to make our own contribution to creating a better Blue Mountains and a better Australia,” Dr Dillon said.

“We will also be welcoming over 50 new Australian citizens who call the Blue Mountains home.”
