I’ll start this week by wishing everyone a very happy new year. I’m sure I share the views of the entire community in hoping that 2021 is a better year for us all.

WELCOMING BACK VISITORS

The year has certainly started on the right note as our towns and villages experienced an influx of visitors over the Christmas and New Year period. This is in huge contrast to this time last year and it has been great to welcome people back to our region enjoying our waterways, hiking and mountain biking trails, and the many other attractions and experiences on offer.

It looks like our local businesses and tourism operators are set for a bumper summer holiday season; however, I caution everyone to remain alert to following COVID-19 safe guidelines. The recent outbreaks in Sydney are a reminder that this virus can still cause widespread disruption and we want to ensure that our region remains open for visitors and safe for our community. For the latest updates and advice on COVID-19 see the NSW Health website.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY YOUTH PROGRAM

From 11 to 22 January 2021 our youth team is running a variety of free programs throughout the region for young people aged 12 to 17 years. Activities include mountain biking, skate park sessions and pop-up cinemas. Bookings are essential and can be made by emailing [email protected]. Due to COVID-19 restrictions spaces are limited, so get in early.

SNAP SEND SOLVE

We value the feedback we receive from the community on issues related to Council throughout our region. With more than 15,000 square kilometres to monitor, extra eyes are invaluable to ensure we are aware of any problems as they occur. If you spot any issues in our region you can notify us by calling our customer service centres on 1300 345 345 (open 24/7) or email [email protected]. Alternatively, I encourage you to download the Snap Send Solve app – available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play. This simple-to-use app walks you through the steps of providing details and images (if relevant) and sends the full report directly to us to manage.

Here's to a great 2021 for all!
