Council News - 2 December 2020 Media Release Council a Finalist in Local Government NSW A R Bluett Memorial Awards for 2020

Weddin Shire Council submitted an entry in the A R Bluett Memorial Awards which recognise the two most progressive Councils in the State in two different categories with Council a finalist in the Rural Council category.

The A R Bluett Memorial Awards have been awarded annually since 1945 with Council winning the Award in 1947 as the Grenfell Municipal Council. The Awards are named after Albert Robert Bluett who was an outstanding figure in Local Government, serving as the secretary and solicitor for the Local Government and Shires Associations of NSW for thirty (30) years.

The Rural Council category was won by Bellingen Shire Council on the Mid-North Coast which has a population of approximately 13,000 and an operating budget of approximately $33 million with Weddin Shire Council runner up. Council is very proud of the fact we were a finalist which is a tremendous achievement particularly when we were competing against bigger Councils with more resources.

Council’s entry included a number of significant projects which have been completed over the last few years including the Grenfell Aquatic Centre, Grenfell Medical Centre, Lawson Park Amenities Upgrade as well as various capital and maintenance works on Council’s road network.

To be a finalist in this prestigious Award is a great achievement and one in which the Community, Councillors and Staff can feel justifiably proud.

Interested persons and organisations are invited to make nominations for the Weddin Shire Australia Day 2021 Awards.

Categories are as follows:

Citizen of the Year Senior Citizen of the Year Community Event/Organisation of the Year Community Achievement Awards in any category Achievement Award – each secondary and primary school in the Shire HSC Academic Award – Henry Lawson High School

Nomination forms are available at Council’s Administration Office as well as on Council’s Forms webpage.

Nominations will be received up until Friday, 11 December 2020.

STREET STALLS 2021

Applications may now be lodged with the undersigned for allocations of dates for street stalls during 2021. It is anticipated that an allocation of dates will take place in January 2021.

Applications will be received up until Friday, 18 December 2020.

Residents are hereby advised that due to extenuating circumstances the above meeting to be held on Thursday, 17 December 2020 will commence at 8:00am.

DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL: DA 68/2020 Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979

Council has received an Application for a new Shed (120m2) over LOT: 846 DP: 754578 Manganese Road GRENFELL  NSW  2810.

Inspection: The application DA 68/2020 for Shed may be viewed between the hours of 9:00am - 4:00pm from 24 November 2020 to 8 December 2020 at Council’s Administration Office, Camp Street, Grenfell. Submissions: Any person may make a submission in writing to the Consent Authority within the advertised period. Submissions objecting to the development are required to specify the grounds for objection.
