AlburyCity News 30 Nov 2020

Australian-owned technology company Leading Edge Data Centres has reached a lease agreement with AlburyCity to develop the centre at the Airport Industrial Estate with construction to start early next year.

When the centre is operational, residents and businesses will see improved internet speeds and greater choice in technology providers which will enable technology innovation in the region.

Leading Edge Data Centres Chief Executive Officer and founder, Chris Thorpe, said the data centre is one of 14 hubs set to be constructed across regional NSW.

“The data centre will expand connectivity options in the Albury-Wodonga regions, which will empower everything from the wider community to local businesses,” Mr Thorpe said.

“Albury-Wodonga is a growing region, and this infrastructure will open up direct cloud access to major IT cloud environments in metropolitan areas, enabling faster processing speeds and greater functionality for digital applications.”

AlburyCity Mayor Kevin Mack said the data centre has the potential to deepen the region’s technological blueprint and enhance the Two Cities One Community Smart Community Strategy.

“This new infrastructure will be an amazing boost to our digital arsenal, giving us metro-standard connectivity that will open the way for us to attract new residents and businesses,” he said

“It will also help us to retain our best and brightest young people by providing state-of-the-art technology that will drive business and investment growth across the border cities.”

Leading Edge Data Centres rollout is rapidly expanding across multiple NSW locations over the next 12 months. Their first Newcastle data centre is days away from opening its doors, the Tamworth build commenced on 24 November, and Coffs Harbour and Bathurst Councils have approved plans to commence regional data centre builds.

Planning is also well advanced on the expansion of the Edge data centre network into regional locations in Victoria and Queensland.
