news, local-news,

A new music video about Mount Isa is gaining traction on social media, illustrating and promoting life in the outback mining town. Musician of Small Town Culture, Josh Arnold, teamed up with Spinifex State School to record the song "We are Mount Isa", which has received almost 50,000 views on Facebook. "Spinifex State School helped sing and record the song and whilst doing so we discovered Amanda, who performs a solo throughout the song. She is unbelievable and she is only in Year 9," Mr Arnold said. "The footage was filmed at the seven state primary schools, and different locations around Mount Isa." Mr Arnold said filming took place during October and November. "We filmed at the Mount Isa Look Out, Lake Moondarra, the Granites- which has become one of my new favourite places in the world, Mount Isa Mines and we flew a drone out over some ranges on the edge of town. I tried to listen to the locals and capture what they love about Mount Isa," he said. "This project was initiated by the Centre of Learning and Wellbeing after they approached us to create a song for Mount Isa that showcased the area and promote what a great place it is." Mr Arnold said the response to the song so far had been amazing. "The comments have been great on Facebook and people are really connecting with it," he said. "It's a good song it's not like an education type video, it's really strong in its own right and it has touched people who love the Isa and feel connected to it." Mr Arnold said he had also created a number of other videos for the local state schools. "I have worked with the seven primary state schools through a Regional Arts funded project where each school does their own music video," he said. "I've got to travel all over the country through Small Town Culture and I've loved my time in Mount Isa, I got to know Mount Isa really well." This is not the first time Josh Arnold has visited the North West, having already created videos for Cloncurry, Julia Creek, Dajarra, Flinders, Boulia, Normanton and Karumba.
