Meet Marialaura, Perenjori’s new PECC Coordinator
Shire of Perenjori 27 Oct 2020

My name is Marialaura and I am the Perenjori Early Childhood Coordinator.

I come from Sicily which is the Italian southern island. I was born in Catania and I grew up in Giarre which are two cities on the eastern side of Sicily just at the bottom of the Etna volcano.

In 2008 I graduated in Biological Sciences and in 2010 I got a master degree in Marine Biology at University of Catania. In 2013 I got a Master of Education at the same University and I worked as a science secondary school teacher and special/additional needs teacher both in South and North of Italy.

I moved to Australia in 2015 and I completed the Australian Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care in 2018 in Perth (Sterling Business College). I worked as a Childcare Qualified Educator in 2018 and Assistant Director in 2019 in an Early Childhood Centre in Dalkeith in Perth and previously as an Assistant Educator in 2017 while undertaking my studies in the Australian Early Childhood Education and Care industry.

Children’s education has always been at the forefront of my profession since I was a young teenager. Being the eldest of three siblings gave me the opportunity to help my parents at taking care of my younger sister and brother while they were at work. During my twenties, I have always worked as a students’ tutor with a wide range of age groups (primary, junior and secondary school) and helped them to do homework or properly prepare themselves for tests and exams. I strongly believe that children represent the greatest chance for a better society, therefore, as an adult, a Qualified Educator and Teacher I always strive for high educational practices within my team which role model today’s curious children and tomorrow’s great citizens respectful towards each other’s and towards the planet they live in.
