Friday, 30 October: One of the brains behind the jaw-dropping artwork at the iconic South Fremantle Power Station in North Coogee this year has described it as the ultimate labour of love. opens in a new window A signwriter by trade, Ross Scotland helped spearhead the words ‘It’s For Us’ on the pavement outside the abandoned facility, running the full length of the building – more than 140m – and stretching down towards Robb Street.

Several Cockburn-based businesses were honoured for outstanding support of their employees in their emergency services volunteer roles. opens in a new window The organisations were recognised at the Volunteer Employer recognition Awards whose recipients support volunteers from the State Emergency Service, Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Volunteer Fire and Emergency Services, Bush Fire Service, Marine Rescue WA and the State Wide Operations Responses Division.

Thursday, 29 October: The City of Cockburn has been Highly Commended in the Cities Power Partnership (CPP) Renewable Energy Achievement Award for 2020. opens in a new window The City has the largest inventory of renewable energy systems of any local government in WA including 5,700+ solar panels, plus wind turbines, geothermal heating, methane gas capture and solar LED lighting.

North Coogee’s Barrow Park, containing a bicycle pump track and playground nestled between beachside high-density complexes, has been crowned Australia’s best play space by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects opens in a new window. Located at Shoalwater Street, the park replaced the original playground following requests to the City of Cockburn by South Beach Community Group for improved facilities for families living in the high density beachside suburb.
