Murrumbateman School site announced

Education Minister Sarah Mitchell and Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman have announced the site for the planned new primary school in Murrumbateman. The site is located on 2 Fairley Street, a 1.5-hectare site in the centre of Murrumbateman with dual road frontage.

Yass Valley Mayor Rowena Abbey said Council has been eagerly awaiting the selection of a site for a primary school in Murrumbateman since the announcement of funding in 2018.

"This announcement is a significant milestone and welcome news for the Murrumbateman community – particularly young families. Council looks forward to closely working with the Department of Education to progress the design and construction of the primary school to ensure we get the right outcome for the Murrumbateman community - now and into the future."

Prepare your properties

Exceptional winter and spring rain has resulted in greater than normal growth of grass around the Yass Valley.

Like everyone on their mowers at the moment, Council crews are busy trying to keep up the mowing schedule on Council maintained land so that the growth remains under control.

Long grass poses multiple hazards, including somewhere for snakes to hide and a bushfire threat when the grass begins to dry out over summer.

Residents should start preparing their properties – both rural and residential – for the bushfire season. This includes:

Keeping lawns short and gardens well maintained. Cutting back trees and shrubs overhanging buildings. Cleaning up fallen leaves, twigs, and debris around the property. For more information, please visit https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/ Works schedule

Unsealed roads program – maintenance grading (weather permitting) for 26 October to 30 October:

Doctors Flat Road - in progress. Gums Lane - completed. Long Rail Gully Road - in progress. Black Range Road - completed. Woolgarlo Road - in progress. Dicks Creek Road - in progress. Tallagandra Lane - starts 27/10/20. Pavement repairs along Lachlan Valley Way (MR56) adjacent to the intersection of the Hume Highway are programmed to commence on Monday, 2 November, weather permitting. Public Consultation Submissions welcome for Civic Precinct

In February 2020, Council endorsed a ‘wish list’ of projects and resolved to undertake planning and design work so the projects would be ‘shovel ready’ in the event of grant funding opportunities. One of these projects is a Civic Precinct, which would include a new library, community rooms and exhibition spaces, long term Government tenants and the retention of Crago's Mill among other elements. Council is keen to understand if the elements for inclusion in the Civic Precinct meet community needs and expectations. Community members are invited to make a submission on the proposed location and scope of works.
