Regulated Burn times

The burning season is open from 1 May 2020. Residents will be able to conduct hazard reduction burns on rural properties.  Please exercise caution and stay safe.

It is your responsibility to undertake burns in a controlled manner. Here are a few things you should do:

Check the weather conditions – make sure the wind isn’t over 19km/hr Notify your neighbours and local fire control officer Prepare the burn area, make sure fuel loads are manageable, check all firebreaks and ensure at least 3 people in attendance with sufficient water supply. Burn after 3pm.

The latest fire weather forecast danger ratings and weather forecasts can be found on the Bureau of Meteorology website or on Emergency WA. ​

The annual Bush Fire Prevention Order (PDF 183KB) is sent out with your annual rates notice.

Please ensure that you read through the relevant section of the Bush Fire Prevention Order for your property type.

All properties are inspected yearly to ensure the required works are completed. Inspections begin 01 December 2019.

You are responsible for complying with the fire requirements on your property before this date.

Preparing for the upcoming fire season is everyone’s responsibility. No matter where you are located, there will be things you can do to help reduce the potential spread of bush fire.

Bush Fire Order Variations

If you want to carry out alternative measures to protect your property, you must apply for a Bush Fire Order Variation.

This form must be approved by your local Fire Control Officer, then submitted to the Shire of Capel for approval prior to 31 October 2019.

Late applications will not be accepted.
