Saphron makes up craft kits for libraries to give away during school holidays.

Shire libraries are springing into the upcoming school holidays with nature-based craft activities, a writing workshop for children and shorebird videos from NSW National Parks and Wildlife.

Library Learning and Engagement Officer, Sugita Wahl says that free craft kits will be available from all libraries.

“Kids can pick up a kit and then follow along with our online videos to make different spring-inspired projects.

“Each kit includes material to make a seed bomb, a bird seed feeder and a potato stamp to make your own gift paper,” Ms Vahl said.

People can pick up kits on Thursday 24 September or Friday 25 September – there’s a limited number, so first in, first served.

Throughout the holidays, we’ll post how-to videos for each activity on the library’s Facebook page and website.

The Library thanks Bega Valley Seed Savers for donating seeds for the seed bombs.

For older children, Diana Harley will run an online ‘Write Away’ workshop on Wednesday 30 September.

Diana will guide children through some fun writing techniques and word play to develop their creative writing skills and confidence during this 90-minute workshop.

“We will use our senses to make our writing even better and enjoy language and our environment,” she said.

Workshop numbers are limited and bookings are essential via Eventbrite.

“For preschool children, we’ll be sharing Junior Ranger shorebird education and activity videos, produced by the local National Parks and Wildlife office, on the library’s Facebook and website.

“This is about the time of year when shorebirds start to appear and nest on our beaches and these short delightful videos are great for explaining to young children the importance of protecting bird habitats,” Ms Wahl said.

Each video features Ranger Sym with activities such as Make a Shorebird Nest, Make a Hoody and Sand Treasures.
