Can you support local recovery and planning? Friday 18 September

That’s the question being asked of Orbost and district residents as an Expression of Interest process is launched to establish the Orbost and District Community Recovery and Transition Committee.

Community Recovery and Transition Committees (CRTC) have been progressively established by impacted communities across East Gippsland since the summer bushfires, with the intent for communities to lead and drive their own recovery.

The role of the CRTC is to give a voice to the broad views and recovery goals of the community and to provide a link between communities, East Gippsland Shire Council, Bushfire Recovery Victoria, Department of Jobs Precincts and Regions, and other state government agencies to address priorities identified locally.

To get the ball rolling on the Orbost and District CRTC, an Expression of Interest (EOI) and information pack will be delivered to all mail and post office boxes in the Orbost district in the coming week. It can also be found on Council’s website and hard copies can be collected and submitted at the Orbost Post Office.

Through this EOI residents can self-nominate to become a member of the committee with nominations closing Monday 19 October.

Council’s recently appointed place manager for Orbost and district, Andrew McCreery, said forming the CRTC is a critical step in supporting community recovery, so that affected communities can lead and drive their own recovery processes.

“This ensures local knowledge and expertise is front and centre in recovery actions and in planning,” Andrew said.

“As a CRTC representative for your community, you will help establish the recovery plan, consult with community on potential projects to put forward for planning, funding and delivery, and ultimately help address the specific needs of your community.”
