‘First step’: playgrounds, outdoor exercise equipment reopens

Today, we are so pleased to be reopening your much-loved playgrounds and exercise equipment.

We also welcome a number of services back through the Casey Cardinia libraries in line with ‘first step’ COVID-19 roadmap changes.

I am so proud of our community. Your patience, fortitude and spirit throughout what has been an incredibly tough past six months - and what will be quite a road ahead.

While the Victorian Government has released its ‘Roadmap to reopening’, as a Council, we actively continue our advocacy efforts to the state government in the best interests of our community.

The application of ‘Metropolitan rules’ to our diverse and unique shire remains a frustration to many in our community.

We understand that the designation of Metropolitan and Regional areas is challenging, but we continue to strongly advocate to the government to acknowledge the unique nature of our shire.

We are an interface council, on the metropolitan fringe, with a high proportion of rural areas.

As our communities look towards the roadmap’s future steps, I hope full consideration will be given by the state government when assessing the application of the roadmap and its restrictions on our communities and diverse and unique townships right across our shire.

Council has put extra resources into many areas throughout the pandemic including community grants, business and community support, supporting our vulnerable community members, and social connection initiatives. Our Community and Business package delivers initiatives to help community members, ratepayers, businesses, community groups and our local sporting clubs to better cope with the pandemic’s impacts.

To our business owners and operators, going through such a tough time, please remember you can promote your business to the local community through our new business portal, as well as access details about training, information and support.

Thank you to everyone who has done, and continues to do, the right thing by following health advice.

Keep up the great work supporting each other and our local businesses.

We’re still delivering as many services as we can in person, while also providing services online or over the phone.

If you are seeking information or support, please contact us or visit our coronavirus online help hub.
