Rising soccer stars will be able to train longer and compete under new and improved lighting unveiled this month at Ewen Park in Hurlstone Park.

The City of Canterbury Bankstown worked closely with the Canterbury & District Soccer Football Association (CDSFA) and Hurlstone Park Football Club to build and install six lighting poles with a bank of 16 lights each.

Mayor Khal Asfour said he was pleased Council was able to assist getting the lights installed to provide a big win for the community.

“The new lights are a big win for our community sports teams, so I’m really pleased to see them installed,” Mayor Asfour said.

“Thanks to the new lights, the park can now be used to its full potential.”

Chief Executive Officer of the Canterbury & District Soccer Football Association, Ian Holmes said Ewen Park had special significance.

“The Association expresses its gratitude to the Mayor and the City Plan Department for scheduling the floodlight at Ewen Park in the capital works program,” Mr Holmes said.

“Ewen Park has historical significance within the Association being the spiritual home of Hurlstone Park Wanderers for more than 8o years.”

President of Hurlstone Park Wanderers, Rosalie Viney said she was absolutely thrilled with the new installation.

“We have more than 1,700 participants in community football from under six to players well into their fifties, and it is so important to have good facilities to ensure that the community can enjoy the benefits of community sport.”

This project was delivered by Canterbury-Bankstown Council and funded by the NSW Government’s My Community Project; Football NSW’s Let’s Light Up Football; Canterbury & District Soccer Football Association and Hurlstone Park Wanderers.
