Border closures cause complications

Council is bracing for a period of uncertainty around major projects and services as border restrictions intensify.

Strict border restrictions are already in place for NSW and Victoria, and Sydney is continuing to struggle with ongoing cases of COVID-19.

Council's General Manager, James Roncon, predicted the tight controls could cause frustration for Council workers and residents alike.

"With the current border closures it’s making the procurement of contractors and some goods a bit tricky," he said.

"We're currently reviewing all our projects to see which ones are likely to be affected and whether we can work around it.

"The Gypsum Street reconstruction project is a perfect example. Mildura is the closest place that we can get asphalting contractors, and just days after we started construction the border was locked down.

"We're going to have to find alternative solutions for that project and possibly more in the coming weeks and months, so we'd just ask people to be patient if there are delays."
