Lithgow Council is seeking community feedback to assist in the preparation of the Lithgow Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan.

Council with funding assistance from the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, and the technical expertise of Lyall & Associates, is currently undertaking the Lithgow Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan. The purpose of the study is to assist Council in refining strategic plans and policies for mitigating and managing the effects of existing flood risk, future flood risk and continuing flood risk surrounding the channels of Farmers Creek and Marrangaroo Creek, as well as their major tributaries and areas identified with overland flooding potential.

To ensure the outcomes of the study are relevant to our community, Council is encouraging residents to fill out a questionnaire. The questionnaire can be completed online on Councils ‘Have Your Say’ website at http://www.haveyoursay.lithgow.com/floodplain-risk-management/

Some residents have also been provided the questionnaire by mail.  Council is particularly interested in the feedback of these residents as their properties have been identified as being within the Interim Flood Planning Area.  A reply paid envelope has been included to make participation easy, just fill in the questionnaire and pop it in the mail.

Council encourages the community to fill out the Questionnaire to provide their input on community issues regarding localised flooding in the Lithgow and Marrangaroo Area before the 28th August 2020.

“Floods can have a devastating impact on our community by causing major damage to property, infrastructure and potentially through the loss of life. This study is crucial to managing our floodplain risks and providing council a roadmap to make the necessary changes required to mitigate our vulnerability to future flooding events” said Mayor Ray Thompson.

“We encourage the community to fill out the online questionnaire to ensure your views are heard while going through this process” Mayor Ray Thompson added.

This study is the follow up from the Lithgow Flood Study Review which was completed in 2017. The Flood Study Review documents can be found in the following link in addition to other related flood planning questions: http://council.lithgow.com/lithgow-floodplain-management/
