City of Darwin and the Northern Territory Government have today announced the commencement of a project that will provide additional restroom facilities for people using the Rapid Creek Foreshore.

This project is one of 14 projects earmarked for completion under the $2M Joint Projects announced in February this year, under a dollar for dollar funding agreement with the Territory Government.  All projects aim to improve the amenity, accessibility and useability of public spaces across Darwin.

Alderman Robin Knox joined Member for Nightcliff Natasha Fyles to announce the new facilities.

“City of Darwin Elected Members and Northern Territory Government worked closely to identify and prioritise projects that will deliver great outcomes for our community and I’m delighted these projects have commenced.”

“The Foreshore is a very highly used area for exercise, catching up with family and friends. These new restrooms ensure this beautiful area can be better utilised by the community.

Quotes from Member for Nightcliff, Natasha Fyles:

“Our Government is delivering on priority local projects the community has identified, in partnership with City of Darwin - projects that also create local jobs for Territorians.

“The Foreshore attracts visitors from across Darwin on a daily basis, and extra amenities such as toilet facilities are important for all user groups.”

Projects include new toilet facilities in Jingili, Rapid Creek and Cullen Bay, along with playground and park upgrades in Tiwi, Anula, Leanyer and Wanguri. Projects that were delayed are now underway, with all projects expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

City of Darwin are managing and scoping all projects and local contractors are given priority.
