Aged Care Employee Day

Published on 31 July 2020

Do you work in aged care or know someone that does? Friday, August 7 is Aged Care Employee Day – an opportunity to show our appreciation for the staff and volunteers that work with seniors and frail aged.

During the onset of COVID-19, we learned just how vital it is that seniors in our community can access quality services and support. People working with seniors must be suitably trained and experienced, but more importantly, they need to be understanding, empathetic, caring, observant, and friendly.

Pictured here is one of our staff members, Rossana, who works in Community Care Services (CCS). During the height of the restrictions, CCS staff and volunteers maintained strong connections with clients and members, ensuring they had access to essential supplies and transport. We also made regular welfare and social support calls to people that were feeling isolated, vulnerable and alone. We are proud that we could offer seniors the reassurance and advice they needed to help them meet the changing circumstances.

Our team of 30 staff are employed in administration, client services and transport, with the majority of employees working to deliver weekly club services at our Midland and Beechboro centres. Regardless of their specific role, staff often say how much they appreciate being involved in work that can make a difference to others’ lives. We also engage 86 enthusiastic volunteers that work alongside staff in clubs, in the office or out on the road as drivers.

To everyone that works with seniors, we say - thank you for caring, thank you for your commitment, thank you for your compassion and kindness on August 7 and every other day.
