The Town of Cambridge Mayor Keri Shannon will officially open the new shared path on the northern side of Lake Monger, in Wembley, on Tuesday 28 July at 10am.

The 457 metre long and 2.5 metre wide path, constructed with red asphalt, connects Gregory Street to the Mitchell Freeway as well as the lake and provides improved access along the northern side of Lake Monger away from Dodd Street.

Mayor Shannon said that the new path makes for better access for cyclists and other path users who commute to the city or to the new Bob Hawke High School along the path adjacent to the freeway.

“The paths around Lake Monger have always been very popular for cycling and walking but their popularity increased significantly as an exercise venue during the recent COVID-19 restrictions,” she said.

“The new path will provide better separation for commuting cyclists from recreational walkers, thereby improving safety for all users.

“Lake Monger is culturally and historically significant to the local Wadjuk Noongar community so it is fitting that elder Neville Collard will participate in the official opening along with students from Bold Park Community and Lake Monger Primary Schools.”

The Town of Cambridge received a $130,000 Western Australian Bicycle Network grant for the construction of the path. The grants program is State Government initiative administered by the Department of Transport (DoT).
