Residents who are financially impacted by the drought are encouraged to register for Rural Aid’s Assistance Program.

The Queensland-based rural charity, renowned for its Buy a Bale initiative, is continuing to offer support to farmers across Gannawarra at this challenging time.

“Although the social and economic impacts of COVID-19 is dominating community conversation at present, Council and the various agencies that provide community support continue to assist our farmers as they recover from the drought,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Services Rural Aid provides are one-off payments of $1,000 to primary producers to assist with expenses, counselling support and donations of fodder and domestic water during times of natural disaster.”

The organisation has extended its assistance to Gannawarra Shire Council and other support agencies, highlighted by a donation of $3,000 to the Gannawarra Giving Account in mid-2019.

“Any efforts to promote the plight of rural communities at this time is welcomed, and Council commends Rural Aid for its efforts in supporting our Gannawarra farmers,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“I encourage residents who need support at this time to contact Rural Aid and speak about what options are available.”

Residents can register for support from Rural Aid online at www.buyabale.com.au/can-we-help-you/ or by phoning 1300 327 624.
