Have your say on draft RV Strategy

Published on 02 July 2020

Council is seeking community and industry feedback on a draft Recreational Vehicle (RV) Strategy to guide facilities and services and boost local tourism.

The draft strategy aims to guide Council’s provision of safe and sustainable RV facilities and sites, provide clarity on Council’s legal and regulatory responsibilities and improve communication with travellers and the community.

The draft strategy seeks to boost the local tourism economy by encouraging RV tourism and visitor spend within the municipality. In particular, by improving visitor experience and increasing visitor expenditure and length of stay by better catering to visitor requirements.

RV tourism is a variable and complex topic with a variety of stakeholders with a diverse range of views. The draft strategy seeks to strike a better balance with improving user experiences, managing Council assets and better meeting the needs of industry operators such as caravan parks.

Preparation of an RV Strategy was a key requirement outlined in Council’s Recreational Vehicle and Tourism Signage Plan, adopted in February 2018. The strategy explores the recommendations from this plan and also innovative ways to work with communities and local industry into the future.

Feedback on the draft strategy is being sought from commercial caravan park operators, local tourism businesses and associations, community groups and other interested members of the community. Feedback is important to provide Council with a clear picture of community and stakeholder aspirations and expectations.

Council is also conducting targeted consultation with commercial caravan park operators and local tourism businesses and associations.

Following the consultation period, comments will be consolidated and used to make further recommendations to Council at a future Council meeting.
