She Danced and Sang [Virtual Gallery] | Going Gree...
City of Brimbank 7 Jul 2020

Mel Obst creates semi-abstracted paintings drawn from native vegetation and the Wimmera landscape. Having a practice that extends back over two decades she has recently refocused her efforts onto the development of her painting oeuvre. This has meant an exploration of the lines, colours and repeated patterns of the her natural environment. Initially this honed in on the floral forms such as Banksia and Waratahs but has now extended to a broader consideration of landscape. She utilises her understanding of those painterly elements developed in the early works to depict and allude to larger land forms across greater depths of field.

Exhibition is available to view between 3-31 July via www.artsteps.com

This event is part of Going Green 2020 – an environmental-themed mini-festival for families during July school holidays (7-11 July) featuring EFFA curated short films, performances, workshops and art. Follow Creative Brimbank on Facebook for announcements.
