The best Indigenous artists from across Sydney are set to take the virtual stage when City of Parramatta hosts its free online concert, WARAMI Live, on Sunday 5 July from 12pm to 2pm.

Presented as part of the City’s Burramatta NAIDOC celebrations and the broader WARAMI program which acknowledges Indigenous culture through music, dance and art, the concert will be hosted by comedian Sean Choolburra and feature a string of emerging artists from several different genres.

“Each year, the community gathers together in Parramatta to celebrate Burramatta NAIDOC as part of the national NAIDOC Week program,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer said.

“While NAIDOC celebrations have now been postponed to November, and we are unable to gather together physically due to Covid-19 restrictions, we are still dedicated to delivering our local Burramatta NAIDOC festivities to the community as planned in order to support our Aboriginal artists during these uncertain times and conclude our WARAMI program in a momentous way.

“This online concert will be a wonderful opportunity for everyone from across Sydney and beyond to experience this vibrant cultural event and enjoy the amazing line-up and entertainment on offer.”

The concert will kick-off with one of the nation’s most versatile performers, MC Sean Choolburra, and proceed with performances by Koori Radio veteran DJ Niain, country music singer-songwriter Maddi Lyn, hip-hop artist Barkaa, soul singer-songwriter Evie J Willie, and electro-soul duo Bow and Arrow who have toured nationally with The Sapphires.

No stranger to live performances with a career stretching 25 years in the entertainment industry, comedian Sean Choolburra is looking forward to bringing his unique and energetic persona onto the digital stage.

“Burramatta is a beautiful place, and its WARAMI Live event is really something special. I am looking forward to getting some electro-soul through my body with Bow and Arrow, doing some boot-scootin’ with Maddi Lyn, then breakin’ it down with Barkaa and Evie J Willie, and of course jammin’ with DJ Niain,” Sean said.

“The WARAMI Live concert is not to be missed, so tune into the live stream for the best of Sydney’s Indigenous music scene.”

The WARAMI Live concert will be streamed live on the At Parramatta Facebook page and online here.
