Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has today approved an application for a 3346.1m² Regional Trade Distribution Centre.

Located at the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport, TRC Planning and Development Committee Chair Councillor Megan O’Hara Sullivan said Council had worked closely with Wagners and the State Government to get the application across the line.

“The centre, approved by Council, is to facilitate freight handling directly associated with the adjacent airport use for agricultural products, including meat and dairy products, fruit and vegetables, and packaged nuts,” she said.

“In all planning applications, Council plays a role in balancing the wider interests of all ratepayers and our community as a whole, while supporting the development industry, and ensuring the sustainable growth and management of the Region.

“In this case, Council was able to work closely with staff of the Wagner Corporation Pty Ltd and the State Government to facilitate a streamlined approval process.

“Our Council always encourages the development industry to work with us on planning matters and I would like to thank Council officers for being able to work through this application in such a short time frame.”

Under the application, products will be delivered via truck, repackaged within the building to be distributed by plane on the same day. Products are not proposed to be stored on-site longer-term.

Freight handling is proposed between 6am to 7pm, seven days a week, and will employ up to 25 staff on-site across three shifts.

The centre also includes a large loading area (1,682.1m²) air-side of the building, covered by a 11.3m high awning.
