Call for care as parks reopen

AlburyCity’s playgrounds and parks have reopened, in line with health advice from the NSW Government.

Council’s Customer Service Centre in the Kiewa Street administration building will reopen from  Monday.

Revised Public Health Orders from the NSW government have approved the reopening, which will include council’s skate parks and outdoor gym equipment and in general, people may participate in gatherings of not more than 10 people in public places.

However, Albury City Mayor Kevin Mack said it was critical that people using these facilities strictly follow public health regulations to minimise the risk of spreading COVID-19.

“We know that people are very keen to return to our parks and playgrounds but it’s crucial to remember that the virus risk has not gone away so it’s important that everyone practises physical distancing and good hand sanitisation to keep themselves and others safe,” he said.

“It’s great to see our city reopening for business and leisure but the last thing anyone wants is for the virus to re-emerge so we’re asking people to follow the rules and continue to practice the health precautions that we’ve all become used to in recent times.”

Cr Mack has urged anyone visiting our public spaces to remember that outdoor gatherings are limited to a maximum of 10 people.

“It’s a credit to our community that we all worked together to make this reopening possible but it’s important that all the good work is not undone, so please do the safe thing when you and your family are out enjoying our public spaces and services,” he said.

“That way we can all begin to safely return to our normal lives while keeping everyone as safe as possible.”

Council is also working with the business community to support a resumption of trade as restrictions are further relaxed.
