Closures of non-essential services | HRCC and LLC
Shire of Harvey 23 Mar 2020
After the Federal Government’s announcement forcing the closure of non-essential services the Leschenault Leisure Centre and Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre are closed until further notice. Following Premier Mark McGowan’s announcement on 23 March, the Shire’s libraries will also be closed until further notice.

Important new COVID-19 measures come into effect:

New ‘Stage 1’ social distancing directions in place across WA from 12 noon. Facilities including pubs, bars, clubs, indoor sporting venues, cinemas, cultural institutions and places of worship to close immediately. Restaurants and cafes restricted to takeaway. As agreed at National Cabinet, WA schools to remain open until the end of term.

Premier Mark McGowan has outlined immediate, severe changes that will be rolled out across the Western Australian community to assist in stopping the spread of COVID-19.

Following the State Disaster Council meeting, Mr McGowan outlined the Stage 1 restrictions on social gatherings that will come into effect from 12 noon, Monday, 23 March.

These decisions are based on the best medical advice in the country. Western Australians can expect the restrictions could be in place for at least six months.

As the Prime Minister outlined, the following facilities will need to close:

Pubs, bars and registered and licenced clubs. Gyms and indoor sporting venues. Cinemas, entertainment venues, and casinos. Cultural institutions including libraries, museums, art galleries. Funerals in enclosed spaces. Excludes very small groups and where the 1 person per 4 square metre of floor space rule applies. Large religious gatherings and places of worship.

Restaurants and cafes will be restricted to takeaway and home delivery.

Comments to be attributed to President Paul Gillett.

“The Shire’s highest priority is the well-being and safety of its staff and community members.

“We are keeping up-to-date and informed with the latest information from the Health Department WA.

“We are making decisions based on the advice handed down by the Federal and State Governments.

“We are asking our staff to stay home if they have any cold or flu-like symptoms and to follow the quarantine criteria outlined by the Department.

“We encourage our community to support those who are most at risk and ensure they have the essential supplies needed for day to day living.

“If we can all work together and support one another we will get through these uncharted waters and come out stronger as a community.”
