COVID-19…Keep your distance please

Byron Shire Council is asking visitors and the entire community, including residents and businesses, to heed the social distancing protocols that have been put in place by the Australian and NSW Governments.

This is a very difficult, uncertain and anxious time for individuals, businesses and public authorities and there is a responsibility on everyone to not compromise the health of others.

Beaches in the Byron Shire remain open with people reminded that social distancing rules apply on the beach as well.

General Manager, Mark Arnold, said Byron Shire Council, like all councils in NSW, will be guided by the NSW Government in respect to closures of public spaces.

The rules for indoor meetings, being one person per four square metres of floor space will apply to the Council meeting that is scheduled for Thursday 26 March 2020.

This means that with Councillors and staff, there will be very limited opportunity for members of the public.

“We are encouraging people who normally attend Council meetings to choose the option of listening to the audio recording of the meeting which will be available on our website,” Mr Arnold said.

“Some members of the public may not be able to enter the Council Chambers and we ask that they respectfully accept the guidance of staff should this occur,” he said.

People who wish to ask questions during Public Access are asked to submit their questions via email [email protected].

This is an evolving situation and people need to check in with NSW and Australian Government websites for the latest information on the COVID-19 pandemic.
