Council staff to deliver for Meals on Wheels

Council staff whose regular duties have been impacted by the COVID-19 health situation, including parking rangers and event staff, have volunteered to help Campbelltown Meals on Wheels deliver food to vulnerable people in the community.

Campbelltown Meals on Wheels have experienced a surge in demand as vulnerable people take the advice of health authorities to stay at home.

Staff will use Council-owned vehicles and follow social distancing recommendations when delivering, including leaving meals at the door.

Mayor George Brticevic said this was another way Council would support its community through these extraordinary times.

“Meals on Wheels provide a valuable community service that is even more important at this time when the elderly and vulnerable of our community need to stay in their homes to keep safe,” Cr Brticevic said.

“Council continues to respond to this evolving situation swiftly and with the needs of the community as its priority,” he said.

“While essential services will continue to be maintained and planning for the future remains part of daily business, staff are still finding ways to support the community in meaningful ways such as this.”

Council has also hired a large freezer for Campbelltown Meals on Wheels to store their excess stock which has been placed outside the Meals on Wheels building at the Campbelltown Civic Centre.
