Appin South bridge works to begin

Works to replace the Appin South bridge with a new dual-lane structure will begin on Monday, 30 March 2020.
The bridge, located along Appin South Road spanning the Loddon River, will be closed for approximately 14 weeks to enable the works to occur.
“The Appin South Bridge is a major infrastructure asset, as it provides vehicle access to the Loddon Valley Highway for both residents and key services,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.
“With a width of six metres, the current structure is effectively a single lane bridge. Furthermore, the bridge is degrading quickly, and is estimated to last another nine years before it becomes unusable.”
Motorists are advised to find alternative routes whilst the replacement works are occurring, with bridges that span the Loddon River located on Canary Island-Leaghur Road, Hewitt Road, Old Kerang Road and Wood Lane.
“Council thanks motorists and residents for their understanding as these works are completed,” Mayor Learmonth said.
The $1.179 million Appin South Bridge replacement program is supported by $589,500 from the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program and a $393,000 contribution from Regional Roads Victoria’s Fixing Country Roads program.
