The unfolding Covid-19 crisis has forced Fly Corporate to suspend passenger services from Armidale to Brisbane as State borders close and passenger numbers plummet.

As was announced last week with the suspension of Rex Airlines passenger services from Armidale to Sydney, Council understands the tough decisions being made daily by businesses locally and nationally.

Mayor Simon Murray said it was important that Fly Corporate respond to reduced passenger numbers and the volatile economic climate to ensure they can emerge once the crisis is over.

“Airline passenger services are feeling the full force of the Covid-19 shutdown and we completely understand the difficult position the airline is in,” said Cr Murray.

“Health and safety of airline staff and the community is paramount at this time. I have every confidence that Fly Corporate will be back in Armidale providing passenger services to Brisbane once the crisis is over.”

Council has strong working relationships with each of the passenger service providers that operate from Armidale Regional Airport.

“We will work closely with Fly Corporate and do everything we can to assist them to restore flights back into Armidale as soon as possible,” said Cr Murray.

“We are confident for the long term future viability of air services into our region and have no doubt flights will return to some normality in the future.”
