Speak up, be involved, get connected and have fun during Youth Week 2020

The Cessnock Youth Week Planning Committee is excited to launch their action-packed program of events for Youth Week 2020 which will kick off on Saturday 14 March and run through to Saturday 11 April.

This community run event relies on the generous support of young people, local organisations, businesses and Cessnock City Council who have rallied together to provide a range of events and activities for everyone to enjoy.

Each year, Youth Week is an opportunity for young people to share ideas, create events, showcase their talents, have their voices heard and try something new, and this year is no different. The theme for Youth Week 2020 is Speak Up, Be Involved, Get Connected and Have Fun.   The Youth Week Planning Committee has launched a new and exciting initiative in 2020 with the introduction of Youth Week Ambassadors. The Ambassadors are a diverse group of young people aged 12-18 years old with a passion for their community. Look out for the Youth Week Ambassadors around town in the lead up to Youth Week.

There is something for everyone on this year’s program including Skate Jams, a tech based trivia night, My School Rules Cooking Competition. TedX Youth and a cultural afternoon with Mindaribba Local Aboriginal Land Council. There are also a range of other workshops which are a great opportunity to learn new skills, including art, make-up and cooking.

The feature event on the 2020 Program is Youth Fest which will be held at TAFE Park on Saturday 4 April.  This large scale event will include live music, amusements, food stalls and an outdoor cinema.

To coincide with the launch of the Youth Week 2020 program, CYCOS has launched an Instagram account which will be used to help promote Youth Week activities. This will be a great tool to reach local young people, who tend to use this platform more than Facebook. To follow search @cycos_cessnock.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said he is looking forward to seeing local young people getting out and about and involved in Youth Week 2020.

“Each and every year, the dedicated committee work hard to put together an awesome program of events that caters to every interest and it just keeps getting better.”

‘I strongly encourage young people in our community to download or pick up a program and take part this year. It’s all about trying something new and making new connections with other young people in your community, which is so important,” added Cr Pynsent.

Local young people can download the Youth Week 2020 program from Council’s website at www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/YouthWeek and are encouraged to keep an eye on the CYCOS Facebook page for updates at www.facebook.com/CessnockYouthCentre/.
