Learn about the green bin before service starts 6 July

With the roll-out of Council’s new three-bin system rapidly approaching, now is the perfect time to find out how to make best use of your third bin when it arrives.

From this month, Council staff will be at market stalls and other major public events in the region ready to answer any questions and provide information on the new three-bin system.

Council’s Waste Education Officer will also be available to conduct information workshops on request at local clubs, organisations and events. Bookings can be made now by calling (03) 5018 8100.

Under the new three-bin system, which starts on 6 July, residents will receive a large 240-litre green bin for garden and organic waste.

Along with the new bin will be a change to the bin collection schedule:

Green bin (240-litre) collected weekly: food organics and garden organics Red bin (120-litre) collected fortnightly: landfill/rubbish Yellow bin (240-litre) collected fortnightly: recycling.

Residents will receive their new bins between May and June this year, along with:

Councillor for Environment and Farming Sustainability Anthony Cirillo urged residents to learn more about the new system.

“The key to the success of our new three-bin system is learning how to use each bin correctly, which is why we’re conducting an extensive education campaign,” Cr Cirillo said.

“With information stalls at weekend markets and other public events, having workshops available for bookings, and speaking at local schools, we’re trying to make it as easy as possible to find out how the new system works.

“By changing the way we separate our waste at home under this new three-bin system, residents will not only have almost twice the bin space, but will be diverting tens of thousands of tonnes of waste from going to landfill each year.”
