Following the success of its first twelve-week programme, Council and Advance Queensland is pleased to offer local entrepreneurs and business owners the chance to scale-up, develop networks and launch their businesses through the Startup Onramp programme.

Deputy Mayor and Council’s Digital Economy and Innovation Champion, Councillor Nigel Hutton, said Startup Onramp is for anyone who has an idea for a new high growth business or an existing business with a vision to make it national or global.

“The first Startup Onramp programme held in 2019 comprised a total of 10 start-ups and businesses who were the founding cohort of the CAPreneurs,” Cr Hutton said.

“A passionate group of forward thinkers, CAPreneurs are entrepreneurs from the Capricorn Coast region looking to take their businesses to the next level. The participants had access to over 10 different mentors who provided specialist advice and connections to national and international experts.

“The programme will cover a wide range of start-up fundamentals which will help participants define, develop and grow their businesses, including; an introduction to start-ups, what distinguishes successful start-ups from failures, naming and branding, value proposition, legal basics, public relations, product development, customer acquisition, raising investment, pitching, and more.”

Jordan Slarke, owner of Waterpark Farm said the course is applicable to any business, not just start-ups.

“There is relevant information within the programme, which even the most experienced entrepreneurs and businessmen/women will find useful.”

Councillor Hutton said Council is committed to supporting the growth of the CAPrenuers to continue to grow the local innovation ecosystem as it gains momentum.

“The ultimate aim is to support a critical mass of start-up leaders to be part of a long term strategy in becoming commercially successful in international markets,” Cr Hutton said.

Workshops are scheduled for three hours each week, after hours, but mentoring sessions can be scheduled to suit your individual needs and can even be over the phone. The closing date for applications is Tuesday, 19 February 2020.
